Cold Silence (open)

[Ruka Ukario]

It was cold.

Ruka shivered as she trudged through the snowy feilds. The wind whipped by and stung her legs. "I didn't expect to get caught up in THIS!" she thought, inwardly groaning. The white snow whirled around her as the blizzard made it's way over to her. Rune, her animal companion, had gone off somewhere so as not to get caught in the storm.

Of course, he had not wanted to leave Ruka all alone, but she ordered him to go and find shelter. She didn't want him injured by these harsh winds.

Geeze, it was cold!

Another strong gust cut through her like a knife and Ruka gasped as she was tossed to the ground. "Ugh...blizzards are bad for lightweights." she hissed as she stood up, flinching from the cold. She wrapped her jacket tighter around her shoulders and continued forward, heading for the base of the mountains. If she could just get there...

Ruka stumbled. Her head felt fuzzy as she tried to blink away her drowsyness. No. She couldn't fall asleep here. She just couldn't! If she did - "No, don't think about that. Keep going!" she thought, but her movements continued to slow. She dropped to her knees and shivered as the wind frosted over her again. "Just for a moment..." she shut her eyes. "I'll rest. Only for a moment...Rune's waiting for me."

It was so cold...

[Tain]

Tain was sitting under a tree, as odd as that would seem. He had been walking across the snow fields to try and meet one of oldest freinds in the air tribe camp when this awful blizzard had hit and he'd been forced to find somewhere to hide, he'd found the fallen and long since frozen tree with almost ease and so had crawled under its bare branches and curled up tightly and was currently holding a small ball of fire in his palms out in front of himself to try and warm his hands and toes to save them from freezing and simply falling off from the sheer strength of the cold, and that he really didn't want or need right now. he didn't have time for that

The blue heron type bird twittered impatiently. When was the girl going to get here? His imatiance made him worry, and worry put him into action.

The freezing, ice-like winds buffeted against his wings, nearly tattering them with it's sheer force. Rune dipped lower to the snowy earth, finding it easier to fly there. The snow kicked up into his face and eyes, but he ignored it so that he could fly. Blue eyes scanning the barren landscape, he found nothing. Where was she? Where was Ruka? As if in answer to his silent plea, he saw her.

Ruka had fallen to her knees.

The bird fluttered over and landed in front of her. He gave a squwak, pecking lightly at her sleeve. Her eyes opened, and Rune saw that they were glazed over with sleep. Oh no, she couldn't! She could die if she fell asleep in this cold! He screeched and tugged at her shirt, trying to get her to stand up. She tried, but failed and sunk to the ground again. "let me sleep...Rune..." she mumbled.

No! Rune scratched at her arm, but it appeared as if she didn't feel it. With a call full of panic, the heron rose into the sky and searched for anyone that could help. He spotted the boy under the tree and flew over to him, twittering wildly. Rune pecked at his shirt and then flew in Ruka's direction, then came back and hovered. He screeched again and turned in the girls direction, glancing over at the boy.

What was that? Oh, Rune was telling her to get up. Ruka stumbled to her feet, but she was just so tired. "Let me sleep...Rune..." she muttered as she shut her eyes. As long as she had her eyes closed, it wasn't cold. She drifted into darkness.

[Tain]

Tain had pulled his hand tighter around himself and had rested his cold cheek against his side when some screamed near him and he twitched, he lifted his head slowly and snow and frost fell away form his face as he turned to see a sort of long bird. He tilted his head to one sides and yet more snow fell down his side as the bird landed beside him and pecked at his cold fingers and he hissed in slight pain before it took off again and flew a little away to settle before a shadowy figure. Tain rolled his eyes and stood up slowly before seeing the shape and curling his hand in to a tight fist the was soon covered in fire and he took a slow step towards the shivering shape

Rune landed beside Ruka and fluttered his wings as he tugged at her wolf ears with his beak. At first, there was no response, but the heat emmiting from the boys fire in his hands brought her to awareness.

"Rune...?" the wolf girl muttered as she struggled to sit up. The wind was still strong and she trembled as she pulled the jacked tighter around her shoulders. The golden light from the fire in the boys hands made her eyes widen as she noticed him. She tried to stand, but her legs were numb.

Rune was twittering at her, as if to scold her. She frowned. "Hi." she muttered, glancing at the boy. "I'm guessing Rune brought you here?"

[Tain]

Tain looked down as the girl slowly lifted her head and he could clearly see that she wasn't wearing a hood but what he had thought was one was really a pair or wolf ears, he nodded his head slowly to answer her question but said nothing more than that before he flicked one hand and allowed the flames there to go out before he held it out to her, "take it, get up, we move to somewhere warmer now" he said in a dull voice with little life in it. He knew the girl would have been left to die by any human who had passed her so he thought that it was really his duty to care for the hanyou, so that was what he was doing for now

The fire was warm, but Ruka shook her head and kept back as she stood, stomping her legs to get the blood flowing. "I can't." she said as she looked at the glittering yellow flames. "I'm opposite. Water." she told him softly, cringig a little as she spoke.

She hoped that he wouldn't hate her for being the opposite of him. Fire and water never got along, she realized, but she was going to be honest.

[Tain]

Tain rolled his eyes as the girl spoke and shook his head ,"yea well, we are both surrounded by ice and currently, that rules us both so just take it or freeze" he snapped some what harshly before he looked around for somewhere to stay. He spotted what looked like a hole in one of the ice cliffs and then turned to the bird thing with the girl ,"you want her to live, go check the cave is empty" he said in a slightly softer voice before he wrapped an arm under the girls side and pulled her up, still holding out the fire for her to hole in her hands

The reply she got wasn't what she expected, but she was surprised to feel relived from it. Without a word, she hesitently brought her hands closer to the flame. Her instincts screamed at her to stay away, but she fought them down.

The fire was warm, and it did make her feel better. She opened her mouth to say so, but before she could, he'd wrapped an arm around her waist and hauled her to her feet completly. Surprise flashed in her teal eyes, but she didn't protest as to he was the only thing keeping her up anyway.

With a sqwak as if to say 'don't order me around', Rune spread his wings and flew away to the cave. He gazed around at the cold, empty hole, but it was dry, and so he gave a loud call and perched at the opening.

Tain was now getting fairly annoyed, his own feet could barely support himself and his fire had been taken by someone else and he now felt about as strong as tinder. He fought back an angry snarl as he bird gave him a squawk of reply to his request and he stumbled forwards a few steps as it flew away in to the ever thicker fog. He shook his head and then hoped his hood wouldn't fall away from around his hair as he moved but they were close enough to the cave now and the bird was still alive so it seemed to be ok and safe

Rune had flown off to a cave. Ruka lifted her eyes to see the blue egret-looking bird perched at the entrance. The boy beside her seemed to stumble a bit and she glanced at him worriedly. "Take it back." she said, meaning the fire and then set her jaw and forced herself to stand on her own.

Her ears went back as she gritted her teeth against the cold. "I'll be fine for now." she told him, moving forward on her own. "But let's hurry." her words were stolen by the wind as it kicked up.

[Tain]

Tain heard the girl speak and was about to protest but she had stood up properly and tipped him back just enough for his strength to fail and sending him falling back in to the snow. The ball of fire fell away from her hands and seemed attracted to Tain, it ran over his body before reaching his chest and disappearing suddenly but Tain could feel his fire back in himself and felt the power burn through him. He forced himself up to his knees and then stood up as he heard words whip past his face, he couldn't tell what they were but he would work out that the wind was now up so they would have to get over and in to the cave as fast as they could to avoid freezing to death in the blizzard

"Sorry!" Ruka called, but the boy was soon up again when the fire returned to him. She gave one last glance at him and then made her way to the cave. By the time she got there, Rune was twittering at her like a scolding mother.

"Oh, shut up will you?" she growled, a low rumble slipping out from between her fangs. "I don't think fire boy here - what was your name? I'm Ruka - appreciates your noise. I certaintly don't!" she told the bird.

[Tain]

Tain stumbled forwards slowly after the girl and found himself muttering very quickly, the snow seemed to aim for him as if it knew about the fire that he held inside him and he could feel the cold creeping through him but the cave came closer soon enough and he all but dropped inside. He heard the girl and the bird thing talk and found his anger bubbling again and with it came the warmth from the fire elemental inside him and he snapped his head up ,"Tain, my name is tain and I'm very annoyed with having to save you so if you could please shut up and give me a moment to control myself, that would be nice" he snapped in a growl of a voice

Tain was what he called himself. Ruka, upon hearing the anger beneath his words, bristled instincively. "I didn't ask for your help, you know!" she snarled back, fangs snapping. Instantly, she drew back, regretting letting her own anger get the best of her.

Stupid wolf in her....

"Sorry, I...." she gave a quiet curse at herself. "I'll give you some space." her ears dropped as she lowered her eyes and moved away, sitting on the floor and pulling her knees up, dropping her chin down.]
