It was hot. Ruka darted over the dry, desolate wastelands, panting under the heat. She had to get accross and to the other side. Good thing Rune was around; it was easy for him to find water. An area covered in rocks and boulders came up, and Ruka stopped, dark eyes scanning the terrain. It looked like the rocks dipped down...so here, the ground was uneaven and she had to be careful.
Rune soared overhead, calling out in his bird-like way. His bright, blue feathers glimmered under the hot sun, and she smiled. He was a beautiful bird and a good companion. "Keep a lookout, Rune!" she called up to him. He sent out another cry and she took that as his answer.
Turning her eyes ahead to the area of rocks once more, she took a breath and leapt up onto the nearest one. There was a gap from that one to the next and all the way down, so she'd have to jump from one boulder to the other so she didn't get caught underneath. She jumped onto the next one, then the next and the one after that. She was half-way to the middle when Runa sounded a warning call.
It was too late. His call had been heard too late and Ruka's foot missed a step as she jumped again. Her leg slipped and she toppled backwards. She shrieked, hands searching for a hold to pull herself back up, but they found none. She slipped between the boulders and landed hard on the gravel soil below, crying out as a pain run up her leg. "Rune!" she cried, wincing as her leg throbbed. The blue egret landed in a flurry of feathers and looked down at her, pacing back and forth.
"Oh, Rune...what do we do now?" she said, trying not to panic. "I'm trapped."

The desert does not bother him s much as it would others, always cool to the touch as Vincent is. Even still, it was hot out today, and the Natura Filli was wiping sweat off of his brow. 'It's a bad day to be out.' He thinks to himself, a soft sigh escaping him as he looks out over the desert from his perch.
There is something different out here today, he realizes as his eyes lock onto a bright blue bird a little ways away. It suddenly heads to the ground as something- No, someone cries out.
This didn't sound good at all.
Vincent was not one to ignore a call for help, so the man hurries over in the direction of the accident, careful of the terrain. "Hello?" He calls out when he loses sight of the other. He would be no good if he was lost himself. "Is there someone there?"
He waits for a reply to set him back in the right direction.

Ruka looked up at the blue sky framed by the sides of the boulders that had her trapped. She sighed, trying to think of how she could get out. Rune sqwaked and flapped his wings. "What is it Rune?" she asked, looking up at the bird sitting 10 feet above. He sqwaked again. Ruka wondered what was wrong. She didn't hear anything...then again she was trapped below a bunch of rocks that probably muffled any outside noise.
"Rune!" she called as the bird lifted its wings and flew off. "Wait, where are you going?" she cried. But the bird was gone. Ruka sighed and put her head aginst the wall, trying to block out the pain her leg.
--
Rune saw the person from afar and flew off towards him. He seemed to have noticed that his master had fallen and was looking for her. The blue egret called out shrilly and flew in front of him. He sqwaked and flew in his masters direction, then back to the man, and then towards Ruka again. He hovered in place, waiting for him to follow.

The cry of the bird caught Vincent's ears easily, and he turned to spot the egret blue eyes set on the bird. "Show me where." He asks it softly, and follows when the animal leads him. It was a treacherous path, making Vincent a little slow, but his powers over the wind help him keep his balance, a soft movement of breeze countering his steps to keep him from falling. The small shows of power are hardly noticeable, and he likes to keep it that way, but this was an emergency.
"Are you down there?" He calls, leaning over the spot where the bird has shown him, silver hair bright in the desert sun.

Someone called down and Ruka looked up in surprise. "yes, I'm down here!" she called up, her voice breathy as she tried to stand. She silently thanked her bird companion as she leaned against the wall to pull herself up. Pain shot her leg and she fell to the ground with a small cry.
"Ugh, I can't stand up!" she exlaimed, looking up to see who was up there.

There we go. He nods to her, thinking and assessing the situation before he did anything rash. "Hold on, I'll get you out of there." He promises, giving a brief glance at the bird.
"You stay here okay? Just in case." Vincent is pretty sure he could do this, but he would rather have a backup just in case. Carefully, the silver haired male climbed his way down the rocks, down to the girl. he cannot smell any blood when he makes his way next to her and crouches down, but...
"Did you hurt your leg?" His voice is soft and calm, not wanting to scare her further.

She watched as he climbed down and crouched beside her. He asked if she hurt her leg. "Yeah, I think so." she replied, her voice unwavering. Her wolf ears pricked in his direction when he spoke and her dark eyes looked up to see Rune perched on the rocks above.
"Good job, Rune!" she called, smiling slightly. The bird sqwaked in reply.

"He's a good bird." He praised, not missing the girl's tail and the ears atop her head. He is not fazed by them though, if anything relieved as it meant he could use his powers. He puts a hand on her shoulder, reassuring.
"Right, so here's the plan. If you hold onto me and stay very still, I can get us out of here. It is important you stay still though, because I don't want to smack us into the wall. Can you do that?" He asks kindly, waiting for her answer as a strange wind picked up around them, pulling at their clothes.

Ruka looked up, one ear twitching as the wind moved strangly. Her eyes lit up. "You can use magecraft!" she said, eyes wide as she grinned. She nodded as he said she had to be still and hang onto him. "Yeah, I can do that." she replied.

"Don't tell anyone." He teases softly back, no that there was anyone to tell out her. Vincent picks her up, a arm underneath her knees and the other at her back. He is sure her leg might sting a bit in this position, but there was no better way to get them back up. "Alright, here we go."
He is cool to the touch, she might realize, a lot cooler than someone should be out in the desert like this. But there is no time to ask as the wind whips up, loud for a brief moment before Vincent uses it to push them into the air slowly, careful of the rock facing that had hurt the girl on the way down.
When they make it out, he lets himself hover a few feet off of the rocky ground, looking around for the nearest town before setting back down again, keeping her in his arms. "In one piece?"

*by the way, there are not towns. stone age. :3 and she's on her own*
Instictivly, Ruka wrapped her arms around his neck as he picked her up, flinching as her leg-mostly her knee-stung in pain. She was surprised at how cool he felt despite being in the desert. She guessed it was the wind that he was able to use with his magecraft.
Rune fluttered as they reached the top and she ssmiled at the blue egret when the person who'd just helped her settled to the ground. The bird made a few twitteres and rubbed against her shoulder, then hopped up onto it, his claws carefully holding on. "Thank you." she said, looking up at the silver-haired boy about her her age.
"Uhm...my name is Ruka." she smiled slightly, patting Rune again when he twittered for her attention. "Calm down, Rune, I'm fine." she laughed lightly, hiding the fact that her knee was throbbing with pain. Rune made a sound of protest, flapping his wings. He realized that the boy was someone he could speak to.
--
"You there! I know you can hear me!" he twittered, voice worried. "Don't let Ka tell you she's fine. She'll overdo things again and I don't want that!!"
He hopped around a little bit. "She always does this...makes me worried." he muttered. "When will she learn that she doesn't have to be tough all the time?" he sqwaked and tossed his little head, flapping his wings again.

((Whoops sorry! I knew I would forget something xD))
"Vincent. Nice to meet you Ruka. Despite... this." He smiles briefly, head tipped down to look at her, silver hair sliding over of his shoulders. His smile grows a little more as the bird speaks, which must of sounded very strange to the other, chirping and flapping away.
"Your friend says I shouldn't listen to you." He tells her with a soft chuckle. He had a feeling this was not the first time she had gotten into a predicament like this. "Well, that is putting it nicely. Maybe you should let me check out your knee before we part ways?"

"Nice to meet you too." Ruka smiled. "What? You can understand Rune?" she asked, glancing at the bird as he squawked and hopped around. Rune twittered again and settled down upon hearing Vincent say that he should check out her knee.
Ruka hesitated. "Nah, I should be fine..." she began, but Rune flapped his wings and made a ruckus. She looked at the bird. "Stop it Rune! I'm fine, I really am!" she said, her voice wavering. She knew she wasn't fine, but she didn't want to rely on anyone else. She was supposed to be strong and find her sister! She tried to wriggle out from Vincent's arms and get to the ground. Rune kept up his squawking.
--
"Ka, let him help you! You shouldn't be afraid to ask for or accept help!!" he twittered, frustrated that she really couldn't understand him, but glad that the boy Vincent could and would probably rely the message to her.

"I can. He's a talkative one, isn't he?" The boy watches between the two, hearing the girl and the bird's words. But it seems Ruka was incredibly stubborn, stubborn enough not to want to take that advice. "He also says you are stubborn."
"Careful, I don't want to drop you...." He says to the girl, caving in and setting her down slowly, but keeping a hand at her back and letting her keep her arms around his neck as well. 'Don't worry, Rune. I won't go far.' He tells the bird, and he really won't- He doubts that with a fall like that, the girl would be able to get very far. "Are you sure? It could be dangerous for you to be out here injured Ruko. It is the desert, after all."

Ruka pouted when she realized that Rune WAS telling Vincent certain things she didn't want anyone to know. "Ok, so I'm stubborn." she said lowly. "But only because I've never relied on anyone before and don't think I should start to now." she flexed her knee and winced, then sighed.
"The desert is nothing compared to all the other things I've faced." she told him, glancing at him, raven hair obscuring her face as she looked between the locks. She looked over at Runa, sending him a short glare. He looked back as if to say 'what?' and clicked his beak.
Ruka sighed again. "I guess there's really nothing I can do any way when I'm injured..." she muttered, not liking the idea one bit.
